Creole Flag
In 1987, Pete Bergeron crafted this Creole flag.
This emblem combines symbols of Louisiana's French heritage, represented by a white fleur de lis, with influences from West African cultures, depicted by the Mali Republic National tri-color flag and the Senegal Republic National flag. Additionally, the Spanish Colonial heritage is symbolized by the Tower of Castille. All four distinct symbols are united by a white cross, symbolizing the harmony of the Christian faith embraced by the diverse Muslim and Islamic communities from Senegal and Mali in Louisiana. This flag is a powerful representation of the unique blend of histories and traditions that define our vibrant Creole culture.
